Winter Festivals in Ely
Now that we have a lovely white snow cover and February is just around the corner, it is time for the festivals to begin! Ely Winter Festival starts February 1st with the park full of giant snow blocks and carvers hard at work making amazing sculptures out of the gleaming white snow. These sculptures will grace the park all through winter until the spring sunshine melts them into the ground. Dog sled rides, cross country skiiing, winter hikes, and wandering the downtown coffee shops and stores make winter in Ely such a special time.
The Ely Art Walk is another fun part of February. The downtown bussinesses make their store windows available for local artists and crafts people to display some of their fine work. You can walk through the downtown area viewing fine paintings, quilts, carvings, jewelry, felt sculptures, stained glass and much more. If you fall in love with a specific item, the information on how to purchase it from the artist is posted. The Art Walk will be up all of February.
February 8th marks the start to the Ely Film Festival and it is going to be amazing! Taking place in the Ely Historic State Theatre, it is four days of back to back independent films. Many of the creators of the films are in town for the event and is great fun to meet them and learn about the process of making their films. Many of the shows sell out fast so get your tickets now and make plans to enjoy as many films as you can. Scott and I have tickets for ten of the offerings and hope to get to them all. Plan your lodging at Raven's Wing Bed and Breakfast and take in all these fun winter events.
