Winter in Ely--Festivals, Entertainment, Winter Activities
Celebrate winter in Ely. The winter months in Ely have so many great events and festivals that it is challenging to take advantage of everything. New this year is the Ely Dark Sky Festival ( https://www.ely.org/events/annual-events-and-festivals/ely-dark-sky-festival/ ) January 10-11th sponsored by the Ely Chamber of Commerce. The Ely area is now an official Dark Sky Sanctuary. This year you can participate in moonlight kick sledding, telescope star gazing, a world howling safari and much more.
If you prefer some indoor entertainment, the Shakespeare Festival (https://www.northernlakesarts.org/ ) running January 10-26 begins with Romeo and Juliet. We have had the pleasure of seeing the leads for this play in several other productions in the last year and look forward to another chance to see these talented professionals lend their own unique styles to this performance.
The Ely Winter Festival (https://www.elywinterfestival.com/ ) running February 6-16th events include snow sculptures in the park, dog sled rides, the downtown art walk, Great Nordic Beard Festival (greatnordicbeardfest.com), live music, Folk School classes and more. As our Chamber of Commerce says “Nobody Celebrates Winter Better”.
February events culminate with the Wolf Track Classic Sled Dog Race (https://wolftrackclassic.com/) on February 23rd. It is exciting to see the beautiful dogs line up, hear their excited barking and watch them take off in the race.
And, of course, winter is the time to celebrate out in the quiet, white world. You can ski, snow shoe and skate if the ice stays clear of snow. And it is a perfect time to try your hand at dog sledding.
Raven’s wing would love to welcome you to Ely for a winter visit.
