Spring ice out and fishing in Ely
We have had a bit of a wild winter ride this year. With no snow and bare ground in January and February and tulips and daffodils popping up in March, it was easy to see a nice slow slide into an early spring. And then, we got well over a foot of snow in the last week of March! This is wonderful for our forest and my gardens so I don't mind a bit. It is already melting and I expect early to mid May will be full tulip and daffodil season. May is a great time to visit Ely with plenty of places to hike and paddle. Ice out should come early in May so think about canoeing, fishing, hiking, and enjoying the outdoors. Some great meals at our restaurants would finish your days nicely. The Chocolate Moose opens for the season in May and so will Brittons. Wonderful Indian food is planned for the dinner menu at the Moose and Brittons has amazing breakfasts. A new restaurant is also opening in May, the Frisky Otter. We are excited to see what fun meals will be on their menu. For entertainment, our Northern Lakes Arts Association is putting on many great live performances this summer. The plays, concerts and art shows make Ely an arts destination. Check out the website to see what is happening during your visit. The Historic Ely State Theatre is showing first run movies for only $7, so a movie, some popcorn and maybe a glass of wine can make for a great evening. Plan a movie into your visit too! We hope to see you soon at Raven's Wing.
