Snow, Beautiful Snow!
We are less than a week away from Ely’s annual Winter Festival and we are so excited to have great snow for the event. The snow carvers will begin to create their amazing art work on Thursday February 6th to be completed on Sunday. This year we have 17 professional carving teams and 10 amateur teams. There are sculptors from around the world including the United Kingdom, Argentina, Canada and Germany.
There are so many events that make up the ten day festival. Go to elywinterfestival.com to see them all. When you click on the “events” tab you will get a calendar listing everything. Among the highlights this year is the Great Nordic Beardfest at the State Theatre the evenings of February 7th and 8th. The main event is the 8th.
The Ely Art Walk is on for the whole month of February with over 400 pieces of wonderful local art displayed in the store front windows around town. From photos to paintings, jewelry, pottery, soft sculpture, leaded glass, weavings, knitted items, and much more, this is a showing not to miss. Many items are for sale too so if you fall in love with something you can take it home with you!
Snow shoe trips, cross country skiing, dog sled rides are all available. Come up north, rent some skis, snow shoes or a kick sled and get out into our white wonderland. Raven’s Wing Bed and Breakfast would love to host your visit!
