Canoeing, hiking, birding, fishing, biking and enjoying spring in Ely
Ely is welcoming its spring/early summer season now and we are seeing canoes on cars and early flowers in our gardens. The Brown Thrasher has returned to our yard and we wake up to its song. The Loons are back too and you can hear their haunting calls from the porch. The fishing opener is coming up May 11th and folks are looking forward to catching some Walleyes! There is plenty to do on the lakes, trails and in town. New and seasonal restaurants are opening. May 18th is the all city rummage sale. You can pick up a map at the Chamber of Commerce that shows where all the sales are located. It is a great time to find antiques and other treasures at rummage sale prices—thrifting at its best! And the downtown stores have crazy days going on too. May and early June don’t lack for indoor entertainment either with Reflections Dance Company performing at the Minnesota North Vermillion Campus Theatre (1900 East Camp Street) May 11th and the first 2024 “Broadway in the Boundary Waters” show June 7th-9th also at the Vermillion Theatre. Our Historic State Theatre has first run movies every day and has both matinees and evening showings. May and June are great times for canoeing day trips and coming back to Ravens Wing to relax before heading out to one of our fun restaurants for dinner. Rent a canoe from a local outfitter, pack a picnic lunch and head out for a lovely day in nature. Your comfy room at Ravens Wing is waiting for you at the end of your day!
